Baby Boy Wish List

What's more fun than shopping for yourself? Shopping for your baby. After making the mistake of "window shopping" on the Zara kids website, I'm dreaming of going on a shopping spree for Levi's fall wardrobe...why are baby clothes (or just baby stuff in general) sooo incredibly fun to buy?!

Here's what's on my little wishlist: all items from Zara kids - it's a good thing they don't have online shopping, 'cause I definitely would've made a huge dent in my wallet today.

this little sweater has elbow patches!

i had to add this one as an inside joke...we tease levi for having "spongebob teeth" (the huge gap and square shaped teeth) :P

ok, i wish this came in women's sizes toooo!

little baby harem pants! adorbs.

some sweats for those chilly autumn nights

and these pjs are super cute too (zoom in)! I had to click out of Baby Gap before serious damage could occur to the ol' bank account.

What's your favorite thing to buy for babies?!

Sheer Genius

So I got myself a sheer black maxi skirt from Urban Outfitters a few months ago, and have only worn it ONCE! I daydream about it all the time, but for some reason I'm always stumped as to what to wear with it, and I don't know why. Picking out a top and shoes to pair it with is my little speedbump. I don't know why it stumps me so much, but it does. I think because I'm so tall and the skirt hits kind of right above my ankles, so it's not-quite-a-maxi, yet not-quite-a-midi skirt, so shoes are a big toughie. Also, it is not as flowy (or SHEER!) as I would prefer. Hmm. I've worn it as a tube dress a few times, with a mini skirt and a black bandeau and a belt, and it was pretty cute, but I'd rather try to wear it the way it's meant to be worn.

Anywho, I love what other girls do with theirs, so I'm trying to draw some inspiration from out there on the ol' Interweb. Do you like this trend? Have any styling suggestions for me?

K(eep)I(t)S(hort),S(illy)!

After a short and pathetic rainy spell this past weekend, the mercury has risen for the last two days and it's got my mind a-wanderin' to daydreams of lazy summer afternoons. I love love LOVE summer, it's my favorite season in each and every way. I love the achingly long, sundrenched days, the feeling of hot sand between my toes at the beach, not worrying about having to blowdry my salty ocean-tousled hair, and the lingering smell of hot asphalt and warm grass on a starry, balmy summer night when you can walk around barefoot and without a jacket and just get the slightest chill.  I love getting up in the morning, throwing open the windows, and planning (or NOT planning) my sunny, limitless day.

Anyyyyway, this diversion brings me to the topic of shorts and my love for them. Next to dresses and shoes, shorts are one of my favorite articles of clothing. The tricky part about them is the right fit. Too tight or short and you veer into a stuffed sausage street walker look, too loose or long and you risk looking like a soccer mom. But! Once you find the perfect pair, they make your legs and your booty look snazzy, and you know you've got it right. Here are my top pics for shorts this spring/summer! Since I won't be buying any for awhile, I'll have to start adding shorts to my summer daydream repertoire ;) :

A simple, super soft pale pink t-shirt would be perfect with these bloomers.

Not sure I could pull these off, but they are caaaaa-yute!

Oh how I love tap shorts! They are so comfy, and easily dressed up or down.

Love the color and the 70s feel!
I could see myself pairing these with a black American Apparel 3/4 sleeve bodysuit

Kinda on the wild side, that's what I like about these babies!
I'd wear them with an off-white crochet-y top and some brown leather ankle boots

I am obsessed with these, and of course they are SOLD OUT. Wahhh! :(
The hunt for knockoffs begins...

So flowy and breezy!

Show your legs some love - wear your shorts with pride!

I love.

And so does Levi.
Especially their adjustable beanies!

We have some in a couple different colors, but grey is our favorite. (Can you tell?) :]

An Exercise in Accessories

Ok, so I've realized (not so suddenly) that I may or may not have a shopping problem. That sounds really, really superficial to admit, but it's kinda true.

Not that I am or ever will be in debt from my shopping habit (unless you count a few times where I've overdrawn my account -whoops), but still, the consumerism needs to STOP! Let's be clear about one thing, though: I am usually a big time bargain hunter. I sift through sale racks, shop low price stores like H&M, Forever 21, Nordstrom Rack, and Lohmann's, hit up second hand stores like Buffalo Exchange, and have know to come out of a thrift store with some pretty nifty finds. I can't even remember the last time I bought something full price at places like Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie.

However, I have plenty of options, wardrobe wise, and could easily make due with what I have...and then some. So I've decided that in this time of limbo of the fashion world - you know, not quite winter, not quite spring - I would save my pennies and be resourceful with the clothes I already have.

I read somewhere (and I unfortunately can't remember for the life of me where, so I can't give credit) of a girl taking 30 items from her closet and wearing only those things for 30 days, and that includes shoes. I think she gave accessories an exception, but I'm pondering including those in my 30 items. I'll get back to you on that. My 30 days will start on March 1st.  And yeah, I realize March has 31 days, so maybe I'll just put a twist on it and make it 31 items for 31 days.

One great thing about shopping your own closet is bringing out some hidden creativity and also learning the power of accessories; something I'm usually not the best at. So it is my goal from now until the end of March to not purchase a single item of clothing, no matter how cute, no matter how tempting. Nothing. Then, once the cute spring clothes really start emerging, I may have some funds to buy a few new things. On sale, of course! ;)

I'll spend the next few days looking through my closet and let you all know what items I've chose, and I'll try to take pictures every day of the outfits I ensemble.

Is anyone willing to join me??!

Friday Faves!

I'm looovvviiinnnng the color palate that's been popular lately:  rusty browns and dusty, pale blues. They actually happen to be some of my favorite colors and I'm kinda glad finding clothes in these colors has been so easy! Worn together, they are magic. They really look amazing paired together and complement eachother so well. It kind of reminds me of a desert horizon...rich colored earth against a sunbleached sky. Cheesy? Maybe. Awesome? YES.
