Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Happy Valentine's Day!

So, I don't know if you can tell (I hope you can), but I'm trying to fix up this little blog of mine...however, I am really, really not good at techy stuff and it might be awhile until it gets to where I want it to be. So bear with me. And if anyone wants to give me pointers, I would be forever grateful!

Things I am trying to do but can't figure out for the life of me:

- How to center the blog title on the title bar

- How to move and resize the title picture

...there's more, but those are the main things bugging me today. Hellllp!

In other news, I think we have finally reached the point where we need to move Levi out of his bassinet and into his crib. Sad! He's getting too big too fast. Actually, I'm pretty happy that he's been able to get this much use out of his bassinet, I think babies usually make the move to their crib around 3 months or so. Buuut since we are trying our darndest to stay in this little 1 bedroom apartment to save some Ben Franklins until Levi is a year old, we are milking any space-savers for all they've got!

Despite the overcrowding issue, I'm kind of looking forward to getting out all his cute bedding. It will be interesting to see how/if we can make it all fit!

Hope your day is full of love!

xoxo

Thanks, Leev!

Friday Favorites! (a day late)

This week's Friday Favorite is....

Under the Nile teething toys!

These puppies are 100% organic cotton toys for les bébés to play with and gnaw on...and since they are organic, there is no need for worry about them chewing on pesticides or toxic plastics. Pluuusss they come in a super cute assortment of fruits and veggies, *hopefully* instilling the wee ones with a love for healthy food. :)

Levi currently only has the banana, whom we have named "Banana Boy" and nicknamed "'Nannies", but I have a feeling a lot more little fruits and vegetables will be joining him. My unpaid endorsement urges you to check out the variety at Under the Nile  to get some for a baby you love! (An especially cute gift for baby showers, I may add).

I love the strawberry and the green bean ones. Oh, and the grapes and the carrot, too.!

Which ones do you think are cutest?

You look like a monkey, and you smell like one too.

Sunday was particularly warm, so we decided to take a trip down to the San Diego Zoo to use the gift card that my mom got us for Christmas. We ended up buying annual passes with the gift card, so we can take Levi lots n lots over the next year! Grandma got us a gift that keeps on giving. We invited our friends Miles, Tatum, and their almost-2-year-old daughter Eadie to join us...it was a lot of fun, but lemme tell you, amusement parks are a lot different when you have a baby/little kid along. We figured that since it was Super Bowl Sunday it would be less crowded, but alas, it was still pretty busy. Luckily, we plan on making more trips to the zoo so we can really see the whole park and not feel rushed trying to pack it all into one day while feeding/changing/calming down the baby. Clay and I are animal lovers and I have a feeling Levster will be too...he was actually pretty into looking at the animals!

This one's for levi - he loves "ellies"

oh heyyyy

I'm on the fence about whether this video is cheesy or kinda cute, but either way it is mildy entertaining!
It inspires me to do the socks with heels thing more often..I bought some socks like that over a year ago but
rarely bust them out. Between this vid and the new J.Crew lookbook, I've got some serious inspiration!

Friday Favorites!

This week's Friday Favorite is...The Beach Boys!
A couple of weeks ago I rediscovered my love and admiration for the Beach Boys album Smiley Smile/Wild Honey. I guess it was the warm weather that had me itching for some summery sounds.

Smiley Smile and Wild Honey were actually released as two separate albums in 1967 but were kind of combined later on I guess, and luuuckily it also includes one of my favorite Beach Boys songs as a bonus track, "Can't Wait Too Long". It seriously gives me goosebumps. Plus, it has two other takes of "Good Vibrations", which is another fave song of mine. Personally, I love this album. It's less of the kitchy, cutsie surf songs that The Beach Boys are most famous for and more complex and dynamic. Some people like it, some don't. If you like the Pet Sounds album, my bet is you'll enjoy this as well. Give it a listen if your ears so wish, or let me know if you have any opinions on this "controversial" album!

You are what you eat!!

Alright, confession time: I am a junk food junkie.

Or at least I used to be.

Ok ok... so I still kind of am, but only sometimes!

See, the thing is that I've been super skinny my whole life. And I know that a lot of people would roll their eyes at such a complaint but in total honesty, I hate being so skinny. I just want to be able to gain some weight and keep it on, that's all! To top it off, I'm a really picky eater, too, and I'm sure that doesn't help.

Anyway, so I've always tried to gain weight. And in doing so, I usually went for really high fat, high calorie foods in an effort to put on some pounds. See, I've never had to watch what I eat, so I just ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, and let's face it: the tastiest foods are usually not the foods that are best for you. More butter, more bettah! (Did I just make that up?...or maybe it's a Paula Deen thing?)

It wasn't until I got pregnant that I really realllly had a hard look at my diet. It wasn't pretty. There was even a point during my pregnancy that I had trouble gaining weight and was told to add cheese and peanut butter to everything. I ended up getting those weight-gain drinks and drank 2 a day (they're like 350 calories each). But, I got a whole new perspective on food when I starting looking at it as fuel for not only my body, but for my baby's as well. The biggest thing that I discovered was the incredible amount of CRAP that is added to so much food....I'm talking preservatives, additives, and a bunch of other stuff with names I can't even begin to pronounce.

So began my journey into researching healthy and organic foods. Now, it's true, a lot of stuff that is organic tends to be a little bit more expensive. But I was very surprised at the amount of products I found that were just the same price as non-organic, sometimes even cheaper depending on where I bought them! My go-to sources were: Henry's Market for vitamins, humanely raised meat (for a very reasonable price), stuff like nuts and dried fruit that were sold by the pound in barrels, and natural soda, coconut water, and the like. Trader Joe's is my favvvvorite for snack items (chips, cereal, dairy, pre-made lunches, etc.) - Clay's mom even got me an 'I Love Trader Joe's Cookbook' for Christmas, I'll post more about that another time - and the Farm-to-Market near my work for organic produce that was surprisingly cheapo.

All in all, I made it out of markets like that for a fraction of the price of what I would spend at Ralph's or Albertson's, and all my food had a fraction of the CRAP in it. I was amazed. I could save money and feel better about what I ate! All of these discoveries also led me to start cooking and experimenting in the kitchen more - although my maternal instincts might have also contributed to that - but in any case, I felt better knowing exactly what was put into my meals and felt proud of myself for taking the time to cook. Plus, it was kinda fun!

Basically, like I've said before, I need to take care of myself and be a good example for Levi. Food is fuel! You really are what you eat. I'm still farrr away from becoming the kind of eater I should be, but I'm making progress!

P.S. Again, for my So.Cal readers, Rock View Dairy is a local dairy farm that actually DELIVERS your milk at no extra cost!! The milk does cost a tad bit more, but isn't having a milkman such a cute notion? And you are drinking fresher milk and supporting a local, humanely run business. Worth the extra cents to me. I just signed us up for delivery! :)
